Found Photos in Detroit

They are testimonies of violence and shattered families. The Photos, documents and notes found on the streets of Detroit and gathered in this book tell stories that are not obvious.

On one hand there are the pictures scratched, scrunched, by weather partially modified beyond recognition (and therefore provided with a certain esthetics) that show people not living at ease – and being mostly dark-skinned – houses, car crashes, interior decoration.

Beneath these are pictures as well originating apparently from police archives. The poverty is obvious, the threat sensible. On the other hand you see documents in which the threat becomes concrete: Handwritten and typed notes by humans threatening with violence or searching for help. In between picturesque family portraits.

The book is heavy, not only because of the size (29,7 x 42 cm). It's mental.
