Kamil Sobolewski: Rattenkönig

The photography series Rattenkönig (King of Rats) emerged during several travels of the photographer to the Baltic Sea, the Tatra mountain range in Poland and to the Rhine and Main rivers in Germany. The central theme evolves around humans and other creatures and their life struggles. Wearing-out, friction, self-preservation, not wanting to surrender: a very personal view of the theme evolves into a universal one – significant for anybody.

The german photographer Ludwig Rauch, has described the composition as : I regard the Rattenkönig as a study of the absurdity and contradiction of life, the beauty of imperfection, the grace of anger – as a simple great „nevertheless“.

Kamil Sobolewski is one of the finalists of the gute aussichten Award 2015 / 2016.
