Louise Honée: La Licorne

In the Eastern part of the Camarque, you will find France's last wild beach, which reaches out 25 kilometres.

Among all the cars and caravans and a bustle of coastal life I met a nomad man and his horse Avalanche. A beautiful animal which I refer to as La Licorne, the unicorn. This legendary animal hunted down for it's magic power symbolizes the spirit of purity, innocence and youth. For only a young female could entice a unicorn to become visible and lay his head on her lap, rendering him helpless. The horse Avalanche inspired me to make this photographic story.

In my work the documentary aspect is important but recognizing the simple beauty of storytelling I always look for my own poetry. The underlying theme in my work is adolescence where I try to capture the frankness hidden in juvenile's gaze and body language.
